DescriptionThe inscription on the monument reads: "Black Dog" Bull Buffalo, was the Great, Great Grand Sire of the herd started in 1921 by O.D. Gibson, Pioneer, and brothers, at the home ranch in Wenas Valley - said to be the purest strain of bison in the world and the only bison herd owned and maintained northwest of the Rockies...Erected 1957. On the opposite side of the monument are the picture representations for O.D. Gibson and his wife who are buried on that side of the marker. Gibson, Jean, b. 1906, d. 1962 Gibson, O.D., b. 1877, d. 1959 is also carved on the opposite side. Gibson and his brothers operated a large bison ranch in the Wenas Valley and also ran a meat packing plant in downtown Yakima, WA.
