"Here is the picture and name info that you and I talked about the other night at the Footprinters. The picture was taken in 1920 and of course is exactly where the "Peoples" parking lot is now. Even the Naches Ave. trees were pretty tall then. Picture was brought to me by Mrs. Earl Clevenger. All the I D work was done by O.E. Arnold (Oppie) who went to work there in 1921 so is not in the picture. His phone is G L 33524 and could add a lot of color if you care to call him. My father is in the picture as he worked for the W.W. Sheane Auto Co. for 18 years. Also Russ Rowan was my uncle. Wallace Richardson is the late husband of Eloise Richardson (who was a reporter for your newspaper for many years). Also the father of Liggett Richardson of this city. Sam, it was real interesting to talk to Oppie. As well as the car names showing on their front window they are various times in those days handled...Mack Trucks, Atterbury trucks, and Pierce Arrow, Page, Premier, Marmon, etc. Oppie can tell you about the time Jack Dempsey came in and bought a Cadillac. Mr. Sheane was alive at that time but why he is not in the picture I don't know. I remember him as very tall with a white mustache and very kind to a little 6 year old boy......" |
